Goro Miyazaki (Tales from Earthsea, From Up On Poppy Hill) will direct a television anime adaptation of Swedish author Astrid Lindgren's Ronia the Robber's Daughter (Ronja Rövardotter) children's fantasy book. The series, titled Sanzoku no Musume Ronia in Japan, will air on NHK and BS Premium this fall. POLYGON PICTURES (Knights of Sidonia, The Sky Crawlers) is animating the 3D CG series in collaboration withStudio Ghibli. The show will mark the first time that Miyazaki is directing a television anime series.
Miyazaki said of the series "Ronia the Robber's Daughter is a story not just about a girl who grows into adulthood, but it is also a story about the love and growth between a parent and a child, and a story about the bonds between friends. My goal is to create a work that everyone, from children to adults, will be able to enjoy."
The story revolves around Ronia, the only daughter of Mattis, the chief of a tribe of bandits who live in a large castle in a forest. Ronia studies the ways of the mysterious creatures who live in the forest.
Hiroyuki Kawasaki (The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, Sorcerer Hunters, Ryoko's Case File, Psychic Detective Yakumo) is handling the series composition. NHK Enterprise is producing the series, and NHK and Dwango are handling production and writing.
Lindgren's (1907-2002) most well known work is her book series Pippi Longstocking. She has also written the Karlsson-on-the-Roof and Children of Noisy Village book series.

Goro Miyazaki (I racconti di Terramare, La collina dei papaveri) dirigerà una serie animata per la TV basata sul libro fantasy per l'infanzia Ronja Rövardotter (Ronja, la figlia del brigante), opera dell'autrice svedese Astrid Lindgren. La serie animata prenderà il titolo di Sanzoku no Musume Rōnya (山賊の娘ローニャ), e sarà trasmessa sull'emittente di stato NHK nonché su BS Premium dall’11 ottobre.
La POLYGON PICTURES (Knights of Sidonia, The Sky Crawlers) animerà la serie in 3D CG, con la collaborazione dello Studio Ghibli. Restano tuttavia i disegni preparatori dell'opera, che qualche tempo fa la Ghibli ha ripescato dal cassetto per la gioia (o, se volete, il rimpianto) dei fan dello studio.

A più di quarant'anni di distanza Goro realizza in qualche modo il sogno del padre, sebbene la trasposizione non riguardi né Pippi né l'altra opera dell'autrice svedese ammirata da Hayao: ci riferiamo in quest'ultimo caso a Il libro di Bullerby (Alla vi barn i Bullerbyn, primo dei racconti dedicati ai sei birichini dal paesello di Bullerby), uno tra i 50 libri meritevoli di essere letti secondo Miyazaki padre.
